Bio

Cristiano Pereira is a queer Latinx visual artist based in Buffalo NY since 2013.

Received a PhD in Art from State University of Rio de Janeiro and a MFA from University at Buffalo. Previously had received a BFA in Painting from Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and a MA from Stage University of Rio de Janeiro.

Pereira have shown his work in several group and solo shows between WNY and Rio de Janeiro including Burchfield Penney Art Center, Niagara Arts & Cultural Center and Cândido Portinari Gallery. Since 2021 Pereira has been teaching in different universities including Daemen University, Medaille University and SUNY Erie.

Since his immigration to US, Pereira considers himself part of a queer diaspora, sharing with other expatriates the feeling (or illusion) of living in a more receptive society. More recently, postcolonial and immigration themes have been influencing his work, following his personal experiences. These influences have been investigated through cultural coding and image making, using painting, drawing, photographs and appropriate objects as aesthetic strategies.
